Steve Murray: Co-founder
Steve Murray is a Co-Founder of Supply Chain Partners and a senior international logistics and supply chain leader with over three decades of experience spanning operational management, commercial leadership and board-level strategy across freight forwarding, contract logistics and retail supply chains. He combines hands-on operational depth with a strong record of commercial turnaround, and is known for re-engineering underperforming businesses, driving cultural and organisational change, and building profitable, scalable operations across complex international networks.
Steve’s foundations were built over more than a decade at Exel, where he progressed from a graduate trainee through a series of operational roles in the UK, Hong Kong and Thailand, before being posted to Istanbul in 2001 as Operations Director to help establish Exel’s joint venture presence in Turkey with the Sezginler Group, then the country’s largest independent FMCG distributor. Earlier, as General Manager for Tradeteam’s South East region — a joint venture between Exel and Bass Brewers re-engineering the UK drinks supply chain — he led five sites and 260 staff to deliver the region’s first on-target financial performance in four years, alongside a marked improvement in industrial relations. He went on to lead the design and set-up of the first offshore Supplier Consolidation Centre in Turkey for Per Una and Marks & Spencer Kidswear, improving vehicle fill by a third and shipment accuracy by 7%, before leading the project, implementation and successful 80-plus-person redeployment behind the new Marks & Spencer Kidswear National Distribution Centre.
From 2005, as Business Director for ISC Road, Steve led the merger of Exel and Tibbet & Britten’s European freight operations into a single business unit, growing revenues from £5m to over £15m within three years and expanding the network from 9 to 38 countries. Building on this, he joined DHL Global Forwarding in 2010, ultimately rising to Vice President, International Supply Chain (ISC) for Europe, Middle East & Africa — a role reporting to the Senior Vice President for ISC Global — where he held strategic, tactical and commercial responsibility for the ISC product across the region. Under his tenure, ISC EMEA’s share of global volume grew from 16% to over 40%, with the original European remit expanded to include Africa and the Middle East, employee engagement scores outperforming the wider DPDHL Group by 13%, and the team recognised with DHL Global Forwarding’s UK “Team of the Year” award and a podium finish for its Value Added Services product.
Since January 2023, Steve has served as Regional Manager, UK & Ireland for FedEx Logistics, leading a team of around 30 delivering revenues in excess of $30M across ocean and air freight and customs brokerage. Reporting to the VP of FXL Europe, he was brought in to drive commercial, cultural and financial change in a historically stagnant business, and has since reduced aged debts over 180 days from 30% to 16% of receivables within six months while recovering more than $0.5M in prior write-offs, returned the UK and Ireland operations to profitability, and led FXL UK to become the first FedEx country globally to implement the Cargowise supply chain management system.
Steve holds a BSc (Hons) in Geography from Worcester University (formerly Worcester College of Higher Education).
